On-loan Dover midfielder Barry Cogan scored on his debut for Margate as they beat Canvey in Ryman League Premier Division on Saturday.

Cogan opened the scoring as Gate raced into a three-goal half-time lead, effectively wrapping the points up inside the opening 31 minutes.

Luke Moore set up Cogan for the opener on 24 minutes before two minutes later Zac Attwood headed beyond keeper Tim Brown from Cogan's measured cross.

It was 3-0 on 31 minutes as Cogan again provided the assist for Attwood, who slotted home from inside the penalty area.

Canvey pulled one back through Tambeson Eyong early in the second half but former Gillingham midfielder Charlie Allen continued his impressive scoring form by restoring Gate's three-goal advantage with a stunning volley.

Canvey claimed a late consolation goal through Kevin Dobinson's header but Margate already had one eye on the visit of leaders Maidstone to Hartsdown Park on Tuesday night by that stage.
