Margate 0 Enfield 3 - Ryman League Premier Division match report

Margate slipped to a Ryman League Premier Division home defeat against Enfield and are now eight points behind leaders Maidstone.

Gate had goalkeeper Nikki Bull to thank for not finding themselves behind after the visitors had the better of the opening half hour.

The Blues had already had a warning when Enfield's Mark Kirby blasted over from six yards, after the home side failed to clear a free-kick on 21 minutes, before Bull had to produce a brilliant save to keep out Ryan Doyle's volley three minutes later.

This seemed to wake up Gate, and Freddie Ladapo went close nine minutes before the break, forcing a save from Nathan McDonald at his near post.

Two minutes later he went close again, but again McDonald denied him with a great save.

The half finished with a chance at either end. First, Gate's Ryan James flashed a volley just wide before, Aryan Tajbakhsh's shot took a wicked deflection before just going wide of Bull's left-hand post.

The match really came to life at the start of the second half.
James nodded Sam Rents' cross over, before Rents himself fired wide from 18 yards as Gate started quickly.

Enfield still posed a threat, though, and Tajbakhsh found space before shooting wildly over, before Bull saved well with his legs when Enfield broke through.

Gate continued to press for a goal but Ladapo was twice denied again by McDonald in the Enfield goal, with Luke Moore also dragging a shot wide.

However when the first goal finally came on 69 minutes, it was Enfield who got it.
Corey Whitely played a one-two with Bobby Devyne before scoring from close range.

And the away side made sure off the points with five minutes left, Devyne turning scorer, cutting in from the left to beat Bull at his near post.

It got even worse for Gate in the final minute when Bull's clearance landed straight at Ricky Gabriel's feet and with the goalkeeper stranded he fired into the empty net.
