Record goalscorer and title-winning captain Joe Taylor has announced he is leaving Ramsgate.
Taylor’s decision will come as a shock to Rams fans as the dust settles on their Isthmian South East success.
The striker scored 103 goals in two seasons after rejoining his hometown club from Lewes, helping them win a first championship in 19 years.
“We can confirm that Joe Taylor has decided to leave the club,” said a Ramsgate statement.
“Joe scored an incredible 103 goals in two seasons after returning to the club in 2023, and leaves our all-time top goalscorer.
“We would like to wish Joe all the best for the future.
“Footballers’ careers are short, and we completely respect JT’s decision.
“Joe leaves us a true Ramsgate legend and as a title-winning captain.”
Writing on social media, Taylor said the “time has come for me to leave Ramsgate”, adding he had made “1,000 memories with my family” over the past two seasons.
“Thank you,” added Taylor. “Looking forward to the next chapter, wherever that may be.”
Taylor, 34, is the third member of Ramsgate’s championship-winning squad to depart Southwood in a week.
Midfielder Lee Martin left to take over as Welling manager, while defender Joe Ellul signed for Ashford.
