Ricky Owen replaces Terry Painter as chairman of Margate Football Club

Better times are ahead says new Margate chairman Ricky Owen.

Margate will hope to be more competitive on the pitch while off the pitch the club have submitted plans for major developments to their Hartsdown Park ground.

Mr Owen takes over as chairman, stepping up from the vice chairman position, after Terry Painter decided to stand down.

Commenting on the changes, Mr Owen said: “I would like to thank Terry for all he has done whilst in charge and wish him and his family all the best for the future.

“I can assure everyone that I will do my best to drive the club forward.

“Jay (Saunders, the manager) is in the process of building an exciting and well-balanced squad, and off the pitch our plans for the wider development of the ground continue.

“The past two seasons have been extremely frustrating and challenging for the everyone, but better times are ahead.”

Director Chris Chambers has taken over as vice chairman during the board reshuffle.

Mr Painter, who has also resigned as club director, said of his decision: “I have been very fortunate to work with so many wonderful people.

“There really is a fantastic team pushing the club forwards. I wish everyone, from the owner to the new chairman and all the supporters, all the very best for the future.”
