Ramsgate’s Isthmian Premier fixture at Wingate & Finchley has been reversed.
The Blues’ Summers Lane ground hasn’t been used since the accident that cost Chichester forward Billy Vigar his life after colliding with a perimeter wall in a game on September 20.
Wingate only returned to action at the weekend, beating VCD 4-1 in the FA Trophy third qualifying round, a tie that was also reversed.
They will now travel to Southwood this Saturday (3pm) after the league agreed to a change of venue.
“Certainly on Saturday, we weren’t sure where that fixture was going to be held,” said Rams assistant boss Darren Beale.
“We didn’t know whether it was going to be at Wingate, or possibly a neutral venue, because there was talk about that.
“At the time we didn’t think it would be allowed to be reversed but the powers that be have granted that and now we just get on with it like any normal game.”
Ramsgate players hadn’t indicated whether they would have been willing to play at Summers Lane.
Beale added: “We’d not had that conversation.
“Saturday was Wingate’s first game in a few weeks, since the sad events, so we weren’t really sure.
“It was pushed to the back of our minds and then we found out on Sunday it had been reversed.”
The FA announced an immediate safety review of grounds following Vigar’s death, aged 21.
Ramsgate’s concrete perimeters were removed when they installed a 3G pitch in 2021.
“There’s so many with concrete, it’s quite a common feature around grounds,” said Beale.
“It wasn’t that long ago, if you look at Ramsgate, we had those concrete slabs that slot into posts before we went over to 3G.
“We’ve had somebody look at our ground, just for belt and braces and to make sure it’s safe to play even with the mesh fencing and the run-off distances we have now.”
Ramsgate are looking to bounce back from a 4-1 defeat at Leatherhead in the FA Trophy third qualifying round last Saturday.
Joe Taylor gave the visitors an early lead but their afternoon unravelled as the lower-league side hit back.
“It was strange,” said Beale.
“For the first 20-30 minutes we looked really comfortable.
“I went and watched them in the week and they set up exactly the same, so there were no surprises in that regard.
“We had a good amount of possession and got ourselves in front but from there it didn’t go to plan.
“We took a couple of knocks early on.
“Aaron Barnes was struggling with his hamstring and Jerome Binnom-Williams was struggling with a back injury.
“I don’t think that helped but once they got the equaliser their tails were up and they’re a good side.
“They’re top of their league for a reason.
“That showed once they got back in the game.
“Their confidence then grew and, if anything, we went into our shells, which isn’t really like us.
“We’re six undefeated in the league and we’ve been giving a good account of ourselves but that wasn’t the case on Saturday.
“If I’m honest, it could have been a lot more than what the scoreline was.
“Collectively, we weren’t good enough on the day.
“It’s as simple as that.”
Defender Raphe Brown was a big miss at Leatherhead and his fitness will be monitored this week.
Rams are determined to get back on track against Wingate.
“We owe the fans a performance,” said Beale.
“We’re really thankful for the amount of supporters who travelled to Leatherhead but we didn’t put the performance in that they deserved.
“We’ve got to get it right as a management team, tactically, and the players have got to put that into practice and work hard to get a result.”
