The result leaves Hendon four points behind Stones with a game in hand, and five ahead of Gate who look now look set to finish at least third.

Terry Brown's men made a poor start, as Sam Murphy curled home a free-kick to put the visitors in front after only five minutes.

Moss made it 1-1 thirteen minutes later with his first of the night from another set-piece, only for Elliot Braithwaite to head Hendon back in front just past the half-hour as Gate conceded in the same fashion as the first.

Midfielder James provided Gate with the perfect start to the second half, heading in his first goal for the club four minutes after the break.

Gate were left chasing the game nine minutes later when Charlie Wassmer headed into his own net, but James then volleyed home to make it 3-3 with 19 minutes left.

He and Moss then combined for Gate's fourth to put Gate in front for the first time after 83 minutes, but the lead was shortlived, Andre Da Costa getting Hendon's fourth five minutes from time.

Margate travel to Leatherhead on Saturday. (3pm)
