It’s a chance for the 34-year-old to test himself at Step 2 after scoring 103 goals in two seasons with the Rams.

He was linked with Welling, where ex-Ramsgate team-mate Lee Martin has taken over as manager, after news of his Southwood exit broke.

But he’s off to Essex to play for the Urchins, who are managed by former Ebbsfleet boss Daryl McMahon.

“We are delighted to add Joe to the squad,” McMahon told the club website.

“As soon as we knew he was available, we moved very quickly to get him with us.

“He is a No.9 who scores a lot of goals so we knew he’d be in demand.

“He is also very different to the players we have in our squad.”

Taylor said: “I’m really excited and proud to be joining the club.

“I see this as a great opportunity for me to further myself as a player.

“‘I’m looking forward to working with Daryl as manager and getting in with the squad.”

Hornchurch finished ninth in National League South this season following promotion as Isthmian Premier champions.
