Crews have rescued 10 people after a road was flooded in Tonbridge.

Fire engines and a water safety unit were sent to Coppings Road, Leigh just after 7am after eight vehicles were stranded in around 2ft of flood water.

The mission took just over an hour while vehicles were pushed to safety with drivers and passengers still inside.

No medical treatment was needed.

Following this, firefighters are urging members of the public to take care around flood water.

Jon Quinn, assistant director for customer safety and community engagement said: "It can be deeper than it looks and may be moving quite fast, resulting in you and your vehicle being at risk of becoming stranded.

"There may also be hazards under the water that you can’t see. It’s best not to take the risk and to find an alternative route."

A number of flood alerts are in place across the county after a night of heavy rainfall.

The road will be temporarily closed due to the flooding.
