Bus fire shuts road in Hale Street

A road was shut both ways after a bus caught fire, sparking a huge fireball.

The A228 Boyle Way was closed in both directions closed after the bus caught light in the evening.

Images on social media show the vehicle well alight, with flames leaping several feet into the air.

Tailbacks stretched from Maidstone Road in Hale Street to Branbridges Road in East Peckham.

Traffic was affected between Pembury and Kings Hill.

The road has since been reopened.

One witness, who saw the fire before rescue crews arrived, described hearing two explosions shortly after the bus caught fire.
