Formal investigation into pupil from Judd School, Tonbridge, who underwent surgery after being hit in the head with a shotput

A formal investigation has been launched after a schoolboy underwent surgery after being hit in the back of the head with a shotput.

The Health and Safety Executive has launched an official investigation into the incident that left the year 9 pupil hospitalised.

Regulators said they were conducting informal enquiries after the pupil was hit on Friday June 20.

A spokesman for HSE said: "We cannot make comment on the incident, but can confirm that it has progressed into a full investigation."

Ambulance crews took the pupil from the Brook Street school to Tunbridge Wells Hospital, but he was later transferred to King's College Hospital, in London where he underwent surgery.

At the time of the incident, Headteacher Mr Robert Masters said: "We hope for a full recovery; however all head injuries are serious and we must be patient.

"We are devastated that there should be such an occurrence at The Judd School.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured student and his family, as well as with the student who threw the shot and the teach who was supervising.
