Coronavirus kills Tonbridge Carnival

The annual Tonbridge carnival and summer fete organised by the Lions and scheduled to take place on June 14 has been cancelled.

Lions spokesman John Ruck said: "It is with great regret that we have to inform the public that this year’s carnival has been called off.

"It is not a step the organising committee has taken lightly, but due to the coronavirus situation and the current Government advice, it was felt it was the only logical decision we could make.

"We have looked at holding the carnival later in the year, but at the moment the castle lawn, where the fete is held, is fully booked through till the end of September.

"If a new date can be found without clashing with other major events we will let you know immediately."

Last year's carnival attracted thousands of spectators.
