800th anniversary of Magna Carta celebrated at Tonbridge Castle

A prominent artist has handed over a commemorative etching to celebrate the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta.

Maidstone artist Graham Clarke presented Cllr Owen Baldock, the Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, with the artwork in a small ceremony at Tonbridge Castle this afternoon.

The castle is the former home of Richard de Clare, a baron who played a leading role in the negotiations for the Great Charter.

He was one of the 25 sureties behind the document, which was signed by King John.
