People evacuated during Tonbridge house fire

People have been evacuated from their homes as fire crews tackle a loft blaze in a residential street.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a fire in the loft space of a house in Tyne Road, Tonbridge at around 10.40am.

Firefighters were quickly on the scene to find thick, black smoke coming from the property.

Three fire engines and a height vehicle were sent but the height vehicle has since been released.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus are using hose reel jets, two short extension ladders and a main jet to tackle the fire.

Residents from neighbouring properties were asked to leave their homes initially due to the smoke but these have been checked by fire crews and reported as clear.

A Red Cross Vehicle and Kent Fire and Rescue Service's Volunteer Response Team have been requested to provide support for the residents.
