Schools across a town remain shut days after a power cut sparked water issues.

Tonbridge Grammar School in Deakin Leas is closed today (Wednesday 29) due to the ongoing issues.

In a statement published on its website it said: “Teachers will have uploaded work for your child via Teams for periods 3-5 today and teachers will be available via Teams chat, if required, according to your child’s timetable – there will not be live lessons and text books should not be required for the work set.

”We will continue to update you as we receive more details, but please continue to review the website for the most current information.”

Meanwhile, the Judd School is also shut, posting: “Due to continuing unresolved water issues, we have taken the decision to close the school for Wednesday, to avoid the challenges of today's situation.

Students have been told to access work set on Google Classroom instead.

Nexus School, in Upper Haysden Lane, which teaches special needs children, is also affected.

In a statement released last night, the school said they have not received any update regarding the situation.

The spokesperson added: “I apologise if this causes any significant challenges to you or students but we are unable to open the school without having running water or hot water.”

South East Water revealed to KentOnline yesterday some customers were still without water after a power cut shut its treatment works site on Sunday.

Tonbridge MP Tom Tugendhat said this morning: “I am incredibly disappointed that many properties today remain without water.

“It is unacceptable that this issue has not been resolved yet.

“I will be in touch as soon as I receive any updates. Please do contact me if you need help.”

Bottled water stations will be available today at Sovereign Way East Car Park in Tonbridge and Speldhurst Village Hall in Tunbridge Wells.

Mr Tugendhat added that he has asked for a second site in Tonbridge given the scale of this issue and hopes that this will be provided as soon as possible.

South East Water incident manager Phil Jones said: "We're very sorry to customers in the south Tonbridge and Bidborough areas who are still without water or experiencing low-pressure today.

“We estimate around 4,000 properties are in the affected areas, including some schools, with around 2,500 properties still experiencing no water or low-pressure issues.

"This follows a power cut at one of our key water treatment works on Sunday, which meant levels in our drinking water storage tanks fell.

“The site has been back in operation since Monday, and water is slowly returning to our storage tanks and pipework across the network.

"As we continue refilling our network, we anticipate that supplies should return to most customers by late this evening, and all customers should have their supply restored by tomorrow morning.”

Customers are also told to let their taps run if the water appears cloudy or discoloured to remove air from the system.
