Tonbridge Lions go for Guinness World Record for odd socks

A group who love a challenge are hoping to put their home town on the map this summer and get into the Guinness Book Of Records.

As part of their summer fete, the Tonbridge Lions are organising a world record attempt for the most people gathered together in one place wearing odd socks.

Yes, there really is such a thing and currently, the record stands at 993 people.

The Lions, who always see a good attendance at their fete, are hoping to easily pass the 1,000 mark and everyone’s invited to join them to help claim the world record.

The challenge will be held on Sunday, June 1, when there will also be the opportunity to join a parade through the town dressed as your favourite literary character.

Led by a band, the pageant will process from River Walk and go over Big Bridge, along Castle Walk and up to the Castle Lawn, where there will be a selection of stalls, games and arena entertainment.

Entry in the Odd Socks record attempt will cost £1, and all the money raised will go towards local good causes.
