Tonbridge Angels manager Steve McKimm on 'seven huge games' in play-off bid

Steve McKimm says Tonbridge have given themselves a great chance to finish in the Bostik Premier play-offs.

Angels are up to third after Chinedu McKenzie and a late Joe Turner penalty earned a 2-0 win over Corinthian Casuals last weekend.

They have a four-point cushion over sixth-placed Carshalton and bid to strengthen their top-five push at Whitehawk on Saturday.

Boss McKimm said: "We've given ourselves a great opportunity from where we were in December to stay in those play-offs.

"People didn't give us a chance at the start of the season and then because we started well suddenly we're expected to win the league.

"Not once did I ever say we were going to win the league. In my opinion if we make the play-offs it's been a good season.

"We've hit a good run and it's all about keeping that momentum going.

"We've got seven huge games left to make sure we accumulate enough points to stay in those play-offs. If we do that, anything can happen."

Tonbridge were edged 1-0 by National League Bromley in the Kent Senior Cup semi-finals finals on Tuesday night.

JJ Hooper scored the only goal for a strong Ravens outfit but Tonbridge put up a good fight.

McKimm said: "I'm proud of the boys. We wanted to get to the final - we didn't want to go out with a whimper - and they gave everything.

"Fitness-wise we held our own and physically we've got some big boys.

"The difference with sides at their level is they don't make many mistakes.

"We've made one, maybe two, and it's cost us, but the higher up the pyramid you go you see less mistakes that are costly.

"I'm so pleased and proud that the boys stuck with it.

"Jonny Henly's made an outstanding double save at the start of the second half and if that goes in you're thinking, 'here we go' but on the other hand, David Gregory's made two or three outstanding saves for them."
