Tonbridge Angels name Dave Netherstreet as new chairman

Steve McKimm has welcomed the appointment of Dave Netherstreet as the new Tonbridge chairman.

Mr Netherstreet, an Angels fans since 2005, takes the reins from Steve Churcher, who had been interim chairman following Roger Maddams' unexpected resignation two weeks into the job.

Tonbridge boss McKimm said: "I was absolutely pleased when Roger was announced as chairman and I feel the same now Dave's taking it on because he's a club man through and through.

"He's done lots of voluntary work down there, he gets on well with everyone but he says his piece as well.

"He's got the club at heart and I'm looking forward to working with him, as I was with Roger before he had to step down."

McKimm was thrilled with his players' efforts in their 2-1 Bostik Premier defeat against Billericay on Tuesday night - but not so impressed the game had to go ahead at all.

It was postponed on Easter Monday due to a waterlogged pitch at Ricay's New Lodge ground.

The league then insisted it had be to played the next day at nearby Aveley.

McKimm said: "Ours was the only game that got postponed on Monday that had to be played on Tuesday.

"I know Billericay have had a fixture backlog but there's a free Thursday at the end of the season when we could have played it.

"I was gutted not to get the chance to play at Billericay's ground because I wanted to see all the changes that have been made there."

Tonbridge defender Liam Smith cancelled out Sam Deering's second-half opener but Liam Hughes scored Billericay's winner a minute later.

McKimm said: "We gave it our all. It was a mismatch in terms of finances but it wasn't a mismatch on the pitch, apart from a few quality moments from certain individuals."

Tonbridge visit Tooting & Mitcham on Saturday and return to the same venue to take on tenants Dulwich Hamlet on Tuesday.

McKimm, who has George Beaven back from suspension, said: "Tooting are fighting for their lives so that won't be an easy game.

"Dulwich are still in there fighting for the title so that will be another hard one."
