Ebbsfleet United sign centre-back Ronny Nelson, 21, from National League South rivals Tonbridge Angels

Ebbsfleet United have made their third summer signing - and it’s another defender.

Manager Josh Wright has added centre-back Ronny Nelson, 21, to his ranks for their 2025/26 National League South season.

Nelson was in talks with new Tonbridge boss Craig Nelson about another deal at Longmead but, instead, has opted to join the Fleet from their rivals with Tonbridge now due a compensation package from Ebbsfleet for Nelson.

He said: “[I] can’t wait to get started.”

Nelson moves after he featured in more than 40 2024/25 matches for Angels and started during their Kent Senior Cup semi-final 1-0 defeat to Ebbsfleet in March, in which defender Elijah Anthony got the only goal of the game at the death.

In a club statement on Tuesday afternoon, Angels said: “Everyone at Tonbridge Angels thanks Ronny for his time at the club and wish him every success at Stonebridge Road.”

Starting out in Gillingham’s Academy before a stint with Leicester’s under-21s, where he became a regular in the Foxes’ Premier League 2 side while also playing for the first team in the Football League Trophy, Nelson has already played on loan for Dartford and Torquay, as well.

Nelson’s the third new player to join Ebbsfleet this summer after experienced Barnet left-back Ben Coker and ex-Maidstone right-back Charlie Seaman agreed terms.
