Bradford City fans raise funds for FA Cup opponents Tonbridge Angels to help make up for lost gate revenue

Generous Bradford City fans have donated money to FA Cup opponents Tonbridge Angels.

In normal circumstances, Angels would have been expecting a capacity crowd at Longmead for next weekend’s first-round tie.

But with the match behind closed doors, due to Covid regulations, Tonbridge are missing out on a pay day.

Bantams supporter Jonnie Carrington stepped in to help, setting up a justgiving page asking City fans to donate.

His £1,000 target has already been smashed, with more than £1,500 donated by Wednesday evening and £2,200 this morning.

Carrington wrote: “On Saturday, Tonbridge Angels qualified for the FA Cup first round proper for the first time in 48 years.

“Tonight they were drawn at home to League Two Bradford City.

“The Longmead Stadium has a capacity of 3,000 people, of which Bradford City last season had six times more in season tickets.

“Because of Covid, fans aren’t allowed in the grounds, so my idea was to donate just a small fee to make up for what would have probably been Tonbridge’s biggest money payout away from the cup money.

“Let’s all get behind City and show Tonbridge that without fans football would be nothing.”

Grateful Angels boss Steve McKimm said: "This is an unbelievable idea and gesture. Thank you very much.

"It is such a shame as fans can't attend. You'll be welcome any time at Tonbridge if you ever decide to visit and I'll buy you a few beers."
