Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm says Bostik Premier win against Kingstonian was just what the doctor ordered

Victory over high-flying Kingstonian was just what Tonbridge needed.

Angels picked up their first win in six Bostik Premier matches by beating in-form K's 3-2 at Longmead last Saturday.

The Surrey side arrived in second place after one defeat in nine games but Tonbridge turned the tables.

Alex Read and Joe Turner gave them a 2-0 lead only for Dean Inman and Shaun McAuley to score twice in a minute for the visitors at the end of the first half.

Tonbridge regrouped and took the points as Chinedu McKenzie scored his first goal since signing from Haringey.

Boss Steve McKimm said: "The boys started like a house on fire against a very good side and picked up where they left off against Brightlingsea.

"A couple of little errors let them back into it but I didn't need to say much at half-time.

"I reiterated a few things and spoke positively about how we'd been in control and can we do it again?

"Kingstonian had a couple of chances but we went out on the front foot and it was nice for Chinedu to get his first goal.

"The players needed that win. We hadn't won since the beginning of December and the players needed that for their confidence and to build on the draw against Brightlingsea.

"It didn't matter that we were playing second-top, it could have been second-bottom, we just needed three points.

"It was a much-needed win for the players and the staff as well."

Tonbridge, who are 10th, go to Bishop's Stortford this Saturday.

Former Premier League striker Jamie Cureton is still banging in the goals for Stortford, aged 43.

McKimm said: "He's always got to be watched.

"He's the top scorer in the league with 14 or 15 goals.

"Being the player he is, he only needs one chance and it's in the back of the net.

"It's not just him we need to watch, they've got a couple of youngsters on the flanks who are very good."
