Jordan Higgs says he wants to enjoy his football again after rejoining Tonbridge Angels.
Midfielder Higgs, 28, is back at Longmead after spending last season with local rivals Maidstone United.
He captained the Stones in their National League South play-off final defeat at Boreham Wood last month but was among a number of players released days later.
Speaking to Angels TV, Higgs said: “I wanted to enjoy my football again this year.
“It was a frustrating year last year, it was semi-successful, but maybe I lost a bit of enjoyment during that and I’m happy to be here, where I’m appreciated.”
Higgs came to Maidstone’s attention after scoring an injury-time wonder goal in a 1-1 draw between the sides on Boxing Day 2023.
His volley was voted Tonbridge’s goal-of-the-season and he also picked up the supporters’ player and players’ player-of-the-year awards before joining Maidstone.
An ankle injury in the Stones’ opening-day win at St Albans sidelined Higgs for the best part of three months but he got himself fit and helped them reach the play-off final.
Asked if he considered the Maidstone move a mistake, Higgs said: “I wouldn’t say a mistake, I don’t regret it.
“That’s not a negative on Tonbridge, but I had ambitions to further my career and what I wanted was to get a promotion last year.
“Ultimately I lost in the play-off final, I really came close to achieving that, but did I lose something at the same time?
“Maybe, yes, and that’s what I’m looking for this season.
“I want to enjoy myself again and it’s brilliant here, it’s great people, the fans are brilliant, and that’s why I’m back.”
