Tonbridge Juddians 45 Worthing 17: National League 2 East match report

By Adam Hookway

Tonbridge Juddians showed no signs of rust despite a four-week break from action as they thrashed Worthing 45-17 in National League 2 East.

The leaders didn't have it all their own way in the first half, but they scored early with a simple try for Sam Blade. Worthing levelled 10 minutes later, but further touchdowns from centres Shadyn Osgood and Harrison Sims, plus a Sam Evans conversion, saw the hosts change ends 17-12 to the good.

Sims grabbed a second try shortly after the restart and TJs went up a gear from there with Tom Kendrick finishing off in the left corner after the ball had gone right and left a few times before the extra man was found.

TJs’ pack were starting to get the upper hand in the scrums and it was Bobby Bratton who crashed over for the sixth try, which replacement Josh Tusler converted. Tusler added another after Duncan Tout scored the home team’s seventh, with three second-half tries from the bench showing the strength in depth the pacesetters possess.

The result sees Tonbridge six points clear and with a game in hand on second-placed Barnes. However Dorking in third are just eight points back with their own game in hand on Judds.

This Saturday TJs travel to fifth-placed Guernsey.
