Tonbridge Angels manager Steve McKimm says home and away form is irrelevant - just play better

Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm isn’t reading much into their poor home league form this season.

Angels are yet to win at Longmead ahead of tonight’s National League South clash with Concord Rangers – but have won three times on the road, against Ebbsfleet, Chelmsford and Billericay.

“I don’t buy into that,” said McKimm, when asked about the differences. “We will go anywhere and play anywhere, whether it’s at home or away, and give it our all.

“It’s just a matter of whether you are good enough on that day.

“We went to Ebbsfleet and didn’t have a lot of the ball and defended like Trojans and we got the result. We played Braintree (at home) and we gave them a goal.

“There’s a lot of different aspects of the game that we need to be better at and when it clicks then we’ll be good.

“At the moment, we’re getting bits and pieces that are good at one point and then we look like we have no cohesion at our game. We need to get it going for 90 minutes.”

The Concord match is a chance for Tonbridge to bounce back from last weekend’s home reverse to Hemel.

“We thought we’d put it right from Tuesday on Saturday, now we’ve got to put it right on Tuesday from Saturday,” added McKimm.

“Your next game is always your most important. What we’ve got to do is not feel sorry for ourselves, I certainly won’t and the players can’t.

“We’ll get ourselves dusted down and ready to go on Tuesday night against another good side.

“We’ve got loads of things that are positive and loads that are negative and that’s the learning curve of football, whether you’re a manager or a player.

“People have to take it on board. I’m learning a lot about these players, even more now.

“I don’t care who it is against or how it comes, we need to get a consistent run going. We’re nine games in now but we’re better off than we were last year.

“We’ve had a good start but we need to get better and if we don’t then there will be alarm bells starting to ring. I’ve got belief in this group that they can (get better).”
