Manager Steve McKimm and assistant Barry Moore sign new deals at Tonbridge Angels

Tonbridge Angels manager Steve McKimm has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract.

The National League South side say both McKimm and assistant manager Barry Moore have signed a deal that “provides security for both club and managers and gives the opportunity for Steve and Barry to build for the future with the aspiration of promotion to the top rung of non-league football.”

Angels Chairman Dave Netherstreet said: “We believe that Steve and Barry are the pair to help us achieve that success.

“Given the challenges of running a semi-professional club they have done brilliantly over the last seven years and we believe that success can continue and grow.”

McKimm has been at the club for seven years and guided them back to the second tier of non-league football in 2019 after victory in the Isthmian League Super Play-Off final. Last year they also reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time since 1972.

The Angels, meanwhile, have announced several player departures in recent days.

James Folkes has been a long-term fixture at the club since McKimm took charge, joining in August 2014. He leaves after making over 200 appearances.

McKimm said: “We will all miss his infectious humour and uplifting take on life.”

D’Sean Theobalds is also moving on again. Inbetween two spells at the club he played in the Polish top-flight but that move was eventually disrupted by the Covid pandemic and he moved back to Longmead.

He leaves with 70 appearances under his belt for the Angels and McKimm said: “D'Sean will quite rightly feel he has unfinished business at trying his hand at a higher level and I wish him all the very best of luck in that regard.”

Defender Rian Bray was an ever-present in 2019/20 and McKimm said: “I'm sure Rian will have no difficulty in finding another good club at which to play his football. He was a quick learner and straight away became an essential part of our defensive unit.”
