Tonbridge Angels manager Jay Sauders retains National League South play-off ambitions before taking on leaders Dorking Wanderers

Tonbridge will keep going in their bid to make the National League South play-offs.

Tenth-placed Angels have fallen nine points off the top seven after four games without a win.

Truro, in seventh, also have a game in hand.

But things can change quickly in football and, with 15 games to go, Jay Saunders’ side won’t be throwing in the towel.

They visit leaders Dorking tonight looking to complete the double over Marc White’s side, having won 1-0 at Longmead in October through Jamie Fielding’s early goal.

“There’s always one team that makes a late run and we won’t give up on it,” said manager Saunders.

“I don’t think it’s mathematically impossible.

“When we played Eastbourne at home a few weeks ago, if we’d won that game, we were a point off the play-offs with two games in hand.

“Since then, we’ve had injuries, suspensions, we’ve been playing Saturday-Tuesday every week and when you’ve got all those players out, that kills you.

“We’ve not been able to get a consistent run with the squad but that’s football. We’ll keep going. Things can change.”

Four wins in five have sent Dorking to the top of the table.

They’re a point clear of Worthing, who beat Tonbridge 2-1 at Longmead on Saturday, although the Rebels have three games in hand.

“We beat Dorking at home but I actually thought they were the best team we’ve played this year,” said Saunders.

“I was really impressed with them.

“We were good that night, especially in the first half. Second half, they showed what they’re about.

“It’s not going to be easy. I’ve actually never been there as a manager, so it’s a first for me.

“It’ll be good to see Marc, and we know it’ll be a tough game.”
