Pensioner from Blacon in Chester facing jail for historic child sex offences in Tunbridge Wells

An 82-year-old man has been told he is facing an immediate jail sentence after admitting sex crimes dating back 16 years.

Frail Sydney Raynor had made a 500 mile round trip from his home in the north west to Maidstone to face five charges.

He sat in the dock at Maidstone Crown Court and answered "guilty, m'am" to the court clerk to each of the child sex offences, which were committed in the Tunbridge Wells area between May 2004 and July 2007.

His lawyer Mark Le Brocq told Judge Philip St John-Stevens that Raynor was not in good health. He said the octogenarian is awaiting a hernia operation and is losing sight in one eye.

The sentence was adjourned until November 3 for the preparation of a probation report and he was granted bail to his home in Blacon, Chester.

He said: "He is aware that imprisonment is inevitable and any report will address issues about his age and health."

Raynor faces five charges of sex assault on a child under 13-years-old.

Judge St John-Stevens told him to prepare himself for an immediate jail sentence, adding: "You should be in no doubt about that."
