Inquest into death of 23-year-old Lydia Smith from Tunbridge Wells opens

An inquest has opened into the tragic death of 23-year-old Lydia Smith.

The "beautiful, cherished and much loved" daughter and friend died in a car crash on Tudeley Road, Tonbridge, just after midnight on January 26.

Senior coroner Roger Hatch heard Miss Smith, of Stephen's Road, Tunbridge Wells, was driving her white Ford Fiesta when she was involved in a head on collision with a Volkswagen Passat.

A post mortem gave the cause of death as "massive head trauma".

The former St Gregory Catholic School pupil's name was projected onto the walls of Source Bar hours after her death, when friend DJ Will Wiley played the Maidstone club.

Mr Wiley, who had known her for eight years, told us: "She was just lovely, she had a massive impact on everyone.

"She always lit up the room with her smile and always knew exactly how to lift people up when they were down - a wise old soul, we called her.

"More people loved her than she knew and there’s not a chance she’ll be forgotten."
