Man arrested after spate of robberies in Tunbridge Wells, including at knifepoint

A man has been taken into custody following a wave of crime reports on the same morning, including one where a man was seen with a knife.

Police intervened after four incidents were reported in quick succession, all of which have been linked, including at least one robbery.

Yesterday at 7am, while a member of the public used cash machine in Grosvenor Road, they were threatened by a man with a sharp object, who left empty handed.

Then at 7.45am, a man stole £20 from a pensioner in Rock Villa Road.

At 8.20am, staff at a shop in Silverdale Road reported being threatened by a person who stole a bottle of wine.

Police are also linking a fourth incident at the Spar shop in Liptraps Lane, where at around 9.40am, a man is alleged to have been seen possessing a knife.

Just before 9.55am, a 21-year-old man from Tunbridge Wells was arrested and remains in custody.

Harry Dial, of no fixed addressed, was charged with attempted robbery, theft, threatening a person with a knife or sharply pointed article in a public place and possessing a knife or sharply pointed article in a public place.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court on Saturday, January 19, but did not enter a plea.

He is remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Monday, February 18.
