Firefighters rescue woman from smoke-filled house in Mount Sion, Tunbridge Wells

A woman in her 80s has died after she became trapped in a smoke-filled house.

Crews rushed to Mount Sion in Tunbridge Wells at 1am this morning after reports of a large fire at a property.

Three fire engines were sent to the scene, with the first arriving within just three minutes. Firefighters entered the house wearing breathing apparatus to evacuate the woman and put out a fire in a ground floor room.

She was then taken to hospital by paramedics and the incident came to and end at 3.20am.

The cause of the fire is currently not known but will be investigated.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: "A woman in her 80s who was found at the address was taken to a local hospital by South East Coast Ambulance Service where she later died.

"Her next of kin have been informed and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death."
