Police called to disturbance on streets of Tunbridge Wells

The last night of lockdown turned ugly when revellers spilled out onto the streets in Tunbridge Wells.

Crowds gathered after the 10pm closing time on Wednesday evening in what witnesses described as a "hostile atmosphere" that ended with both police and ambulance services attending.

Two people were arrested - one a 17-year-old girl, alleged to have assaulted an emergency worker. She was later bailed to return to a police station next Thursday.

The other was a 21-year-old man from Maidstone who was arrested for being drunk and disorderly. He was later issued a penalty notice and released from custody.

A police spokesman said: "It is reported that during his arrest officers received verbal abuse from a number of onlookers, who were also acting in an aggressive manner."

Jade Holland was a witness to the scene and Tweeted a video of it.

The incident happened at around 10.15pm near Tunbridge Wells Station in Mount Pleasant Road.
