Possible arson attacks at caravan site

POLICE are investigating two fires thought to have been started deliberately at a former travellers' caravan site in Tunbridge Wells.

Firefighters were called to the North Farm Industrial Estate at 3.15pm on March 29 to tackle two derelict caravans that were on fire, and again at 7.20pm to deal with a shed alight.

Martin Elkins, sub officer, said: "The first incident in particular was quite dangerous, because there were several gas canisters nearby and we had to proceed with extreme caution.

"It took us an hour and a half before we were satisfied there was no further danger, but then we were called back later the same day to deal with the shed fire."

It is believed both fires were started deliberately and anyone with information is asked to contact West Kent police on 01732 370732 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Police are also investigating fire damage caused to an open trailer parked in Medway Road behind The Roofing Centre, Tunbridge Wells. Again, arson is suspected.
