Sepp Blatter picked as Edenbridge bonfire guy to be burnt at stake

A bonfire society has revealed it will burn an effigy of Sepp Blatter at its annual bonfire event.

For nearly 20 years the Edenbridge Bonfire Society has been poking fun at the famous and infamous by building and exploding a huge effigy alongside its traditional figure of Guy Fawkes.

This year's choice is the FIFA president, who is standing down amid huge controversy over the organisation's choice of football world cup host nations.

In September, criminal proceedings were announced against Blatter in Switzerland, in relation to allegations of "criminal mismanagement... and misappropriation".

Last month Blatter and other top FIFA officials were suspended amid the investigation.

Hundreds are expected to join Saturday’s procession, which is free of charge, and thousands more to attend the firework display at 6.30pm.
