The vehicle crashed into the bridge between Lamberts Road and Chapman Way, not far from High Brooms railway station.

Police say they were called to the scene at 2.13pm.

As of 6pm, it is understood the vehicle had been removed.

It comes after another railway bridge in Kearnsey, near Dover, was hit by a lorry this morning.

In response to this morning's bridge strike, Network Rail said the driver had not reported it and urged anyone involved in such an accident to do so.
