Rogue traders barge into home of Tunbridge Wells woman, who pays thousands for driveway cleaning

A pensioner was forced to pay around £4,000 to have her driveway cleaned after rogue traders barged into her home.

An 81-year old woman living near Ferndale in Tunbridge Wells reported three men, who had previously been paid to clean her drive, returned to her home demanding more money.

It is alleged the group forced their way into the house after knocking on her door, pushing the door into her on Tuesday, September 18.

The victim then went to the bank to withdraw cash while the suspects waited outside her home.

Chief inspector Pete Steenhuis said: "Some criminals will look to exploit the more vulnerable members of our communities by charging exorbitant amounts of money for work that is often completely unnecessary or at best substandard.

"We would urge residents not to deal with cold callers who knock on doors offering work to clean driveways, repair roofs or to maintain garden shrubs, hedges and trees.

"We are also asking neighbours to keep an eye out for vulnerable people, including the elderly. If you see anything suspicious don’t hesitate to call the police."
