Man charged with burglaries at JD Wetherspoon and WHSmith in Tunbridge Wells

A suspected thief who allegedly attempted to steal from a pub and shop in Tunbridge Wells has been charged.

An intruder snuck reportedly snuck into a restricted area at a The Opera House pub, a branch of JD Wetherspoon, in Mount Pleasant Road at around 11.20am on Saturday, June 22.

Staff challenged the man and he left.

Shortly afterwards a man was stopped by a member of staff at WHSmith in Royal Victoria Place, where it is reported he managed to get into in a staff-only area but was found on a stairway leading to a store room.

Police later received another report of a man stealing DVDs from a shop in Calverley Road.

Aaron Phillips, 22 of Chislehurst Road, Orpington, was arrested and was later charged with theft and two counts of burglary with intent to steal.

He has been bailed to appear before Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court in August.
