Southeastern says train line between Tunbridge Wells and Robertsbridge should reopen after landslides

A second landslide has hit the railway line between Tunbridge Wells and Robertsbridge - but Southeastern says the train services should still resume tomorrow.

On Wednesday, trains were suspended on the popular route when bad weather saw trees and mud slide onto the tracks at Wadhurst.

After working to clear the problem, National Rail announced yesterday that the service would resume tomorrow.

A second landslide has now struck the area, but National Rail aims to clear the area by midnight and still hopes to reopen the line in the morning as planned.

A Southeastern spokesman said: "Network Rail has told us that work is progressing well on clearing the landslip at Wadhurst, and is almost finished.

"However, there has been another landslip about three quarters of a mile away. Because Network Rail has all the machinery it needs on site, work will take place on the second site from 5pm until midnight, meaning it is still confident of reopening the railway for Monday morning.

"While Network Rail is confident it can get the work finished, work of this kind does carry some level of risk, so we'd advise all of our passengers who use the Hastings line to check before they travel before setting out on Monday morning."
