Bedsit murders investigation: Heathfield man David Fuller to go on trial in 2021 charged with killing Wendy Knell and Caroline Pierce in Tunbridge Wells in 1987

A man is to go on trial next year accused of the murders of two women more than 30 years ago.

David Fuller is charged with killing Wendy Knell, 25, and Caroline Pierce, 20, in 1987.

Wendy Knell, was just 25 when she was discovered sexually assaulted and beaten to death at her bedsit in Guildford Road, Tunbridge Wells in June 1987.

Five months later Caroline Pierce, 20, went missing from her bedsit in Grosvenor Park, only for her body to be found weeks later on Romney Marsh.

Fuller appeared by prison video link from Lewes Prison at Maidstone Crown Court this morning and spoke to confirm his name and date of birth.

The 66-year-old, from Alder Close, Heathfield, East Sussex, is expected to formerly enter his pleas at a Plea and Trial Preparation hearing on January 7.

His trial has now been been set for July 5 2021 and could be in front of a High Court judge.

Prosecutor Martin Yale told Judge David Griffith-Jones QC this morning there was no application for bail and he was remanded into custody

Katherine Donnelly, defending, said she had no representations to make.
