Six fire crews tackle building fire in Willow Lane, Paddock Wood

A fire at a commercial building is being tackled by six crews of firefighters.

Neighbours living close to the blaze in Willow Lane, Paddock Wood, were warned to keep their window and doors closed as a precaution against smoke from the flames when the fire was at its peak.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) sent six fire engines to the scene at 9.40am and they remain on site this afternoon.

A spokesman for KFRS said: "Firefighters are making steady progress at the scene of a fire in a large commercial building on Willow Lane in Paddock Wood.

"Six fire engines remain in attendance and crews are damping down any remaining hot spots.

"Previous advice to keep windows and doors closed in the local area due to smoke has now been lifted."

There are no reports of anyone being injured and the cause of the fire is not yet known.

Speaking this morning, an eyewitness at nearby West Kent Shooting School said: "We were covered in smoke here. It's cleared now, but there was a lot everywhere."
