Signage for Staplehurst's new Greggs store has appeared in the village.

The popular bakery is set to open up a branch, along with sandwich giant Subway, in the old NatWest off the High Street in the coming weeks.

The arrival of the fast food retailers was welcomed by dozens of villagers on social media last month, with news of their imminent opening coming hot on the heels of Sainsbury's announcing a supermarket will finally be built after a wait of more than eight years.

A spokesman for Subway confirmed earlier this year that its store would be opening on Thursday, February 13, creating up to five jobs.

A Greggs spokesman said he was unable to confirm an exact date when business would commence, but it is understood to also be opening in the next few weeks.

The retailers will operate on the site of a former bank, where a cash machine was stolen in a dramatic raid in July 2016, which left the entire front section of the building missing.
