Bedgebury Pinetum: Thug stole pensioner's walking stick and threatened him as he tried to protect his dog

A pensioner had his walking stick stolen by a thug after he used it to protect his dog from attack by a lurcher at a beauty spot - and was then threatened with assault by a woman using crutches.

The victim, aged in his 70s, had been walking his beloved pet with his wife in the forest at Bedgebury Pinetum in Goudhurst before the incident happened.

On their way back to their car, which was parked in an area off Park Lane, Hawkhurst, the dog was attacked by what was described as a black lurcher at around 4.30pm on Thursday, August 23.

The victim used his walking stick to separate the dogs and was subsequently approached by the lurcher’s owner, who is said to have threatened him.

It is alleged a woman with the suspect, who was using crutches, then screamed for the man to violently assault the victim.

The victim and his wife made their way back to their car, but were followed by the suspect who continued to make threats and also demanded money.

He is said to have grabbed the pensioner’s walking stick and as the victim was attempting to drive away used it to smash its rear lights. He then left the scene in a white van.

The suspect is described as being around 6ft 3ins tall and of muscular build.

He had short curly ginger hair, ginger stubble and is believed to be aged in his 20s. He also had tattoos on his arms.

The woman with the suspect is described as having an older appearance and was of average height.

She had long black hair with grey streaks and was dressed in black clothing.
