The traditional two-storey freehouse, a short distance from the A229, linking Maidstone to Hastings, has a bar, small restaurant and a snug.

Upstairs there are four-bedrooms, and the three-acre plot includes a 20-space car park and private garden.

Agents Sidney Phillips say in the listing: “Despite its apparent age and character, the property is not a listed building.

The pub was featured in the 2015 movie The Carer, starring Brian Cox, and was briefly a popular watering hole for members of the national press following the £53m Securitas robbery at Tonbridge in 2006, when police investigations centred on a farm nearby.

It is being advertised for sale for £495,000.

The hostelry is named after Lord Raglan, the first Baron Raglan, who was the British commander-in-chief during the Crimean War.

He is best remembered for the British victory at the Battle of Alma and the disastrous loss of the Charge Of the Light Brigade during the Battle of Balaklava.

One of the first to fall in the charge was Captain Nolan, who hailed from Maidstone, and has his own statue in Church Street in the County Town.
