Sandhurst Primary rated good by Ofsted

Staff and pupils at Sandhurst Primary School can be happy with themselves.

The last inspection by Ofsted rated the school "good" in every category.

The assessment is a big step up on the schools' previous inspection in October 2016, when it was said to "require improvement."

This time inspectors said: "This is a good school.

"Staff and governors are led by a strong head teacher and have high aspirations for the pupils to thrive.

"Leaders know the school well and have ensured that good teaching is leading to strong progress."

The school was also praised for its safeguarding policies. Inspectors said: "This is a nurturing school. Pupils are safe and cared for well."

There was praise too for the way the school used additional funding for its disadvantaged pupils, saying "Most disadvantaged pupils make good progress."

The children too can be proud of themselves. Inspectors said: "Pupils typically are friendly and respectful to adults and to each other.

"They have positive attitudes to their learning and their behaviour is good.".

Of course, there was room for some improvement. Inspectors said staff should ensure all pupils were being challenged to achieve their highest potential.

Head teacher Amanda Norman said: “We are all extremely proud of all that the school and our local community has achieved and are already planning the next steps along our journey to be outstanding.

"We would like to thank everyone who helped us achieve our goal, and plan to celebrate our achievements with staff and children later this term.”
