Those seeking the very best that Christmas has to offer families and friends this winter need look no further than across the channel.
Amiens - a quaint city situated less than two hours from the port of Calais and the Eurotunnel Terminal in France - has been a hugely popular destination for many British visitors and locals alike, especially since the introduction of its traditional Christmas market some 20 years ago.
And the best bit is that there are deals on offer for UK residents for hotel stays at the popular French city, meaning you can book a stay in Amiens for as little as £43 per night between Friday, November 23 and Friday, January 4.
All you need to do is type the online booking code, CHRISTMAS2018, into the box at www.hotels-amiens.com on the bottom of the screen reading “You can now benefit from special rates for the ‘Christmas 2018’ congress, which runs from 23/11/2018 to 04/01/2019”.
You will then be directed to another page where you will be eligible for discounts at over 20 hotels in and around Amiens.
The overnight packages are being offered to UK residents only by The Club Hotelier Association - a group of 25 Hoteliers in and around Amiens.
They include double rooms, on a bed & breakfast basis, for two people as well as nightly rates per room start from £43 (€49) in a two-star hotel, £52 (€59) for a three-star and £69.50 (€79) for a four-star hotel.
This winter’s Amiens festivities promise to be another amazing mixture of fun and entertainment while the city centre’s Christmas Market is not to be missed.
A total of 130 Christmas stalls offer a fantastic choice of local and regional food and gifts, ranging from clothes, puppets, toys, gifts and decorations to delicious food, sweets and drinks.
Local artisans will be offering beautifully crafted gifts, including leather goods, jewellery, cashmere scarves, figurines, candles and ornaments.
The stalls are open every day week from 10.30am to 7pm (except Mondays which is open from 2pm- 7pm). The stalls are open until 9pm on Saturdays.
Those who love ice skating can visit the city’s huge ice rink. Admission is free and open between 11am to 7.30pm except on Mondays when it opens at 2pm.
And there’s another Christmas wow factor.
The light show at the cathedral has been described as a truly amazing and magical display of illuminations and will be running nightly from Friday, November 23 (from 7pm) until the end of December.
Other must-see visits include the North Pole animated displays that are open between 10am and 8pm while the big wheel ride offers the chance for an amazing view of the city.
