The RTW Together Business Improvement District is pleased to announce its event marking the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend, the Royal Tunbridge Wells Cake Off!

Taking place on Saturday 4 June, between 11am and 3pm on the Pantiles, members of the public will be able to sample a variety of free ‘royal themed’ cakes from a selection of town centre hospitality businesses, and vote for their favourite.

The event will also feature live music from vintage jazz band Miss Kiddy and the Cads, as well as compering and music from KMFM. Other attractions include free face painting for children, and goodie bag giveaways.

The winner will be crowned on the bandstand at 3pm, and will receive the Cake Off glass trophy, specially commissioned by the BID with Monson Road creative Glass by Claudia.

In partnership with the Tunbridge Wells Hotel, Pantiles, the winning business will also receive an overnight stay for two in the honeymoon suite. The victorious cake maker will also feature on the front cover of the July issue of local SO Magazine, as well as the BID’s own town centre publication.

Designed to promote hospitality businesses represented by the BID across the town centre, RTW Together will also be producing a ‘documentary’ in the run up to the competition, showing the businesses as they prepare for a baking battle, and giving away a booklet on the day promoting local places to get coffee and cake.

BID Director Sarah-Jane Adams is hoping to cook up a successful event.

“Giving a foodie twist to the Jubilee celebrations, familiar town centre businesses will be going spoon to spoon as they whip up a royal themed dessert. We hope that members of the public will come along to support them, enjoy the free live music and family friendly activities, and of course – eat free cake!”

The promotional team will also be in Royal Victoria Place shopping centre on Friday 3 June between 11am and 3pm promoting the event and giving away goodie bags and sweet treats.
