Canterbury and Dartford: Grease the musical starring Tom Parker from The Wanted comes to Kent

The original high school musical, Grease’s songs are so well known, the show’s performances in two Kent theatres are likely to be singalongs.

The Wanted’s Tom Parker makes his theatre debut as Danny Zuko, with former EastEnder Louisa Lytton playing Rizzo.

Joining the pair as Sandy will be Over The Rainbow winner Danielle Hope.

The musical itself opened on Broadway in 1972 and was made into a film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in 1978.

Voted the No.1 Greatest Musical in Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Musicals, the show features all the songs from the film, including You’re The One That I Want, Grease Is The Word, Summer Nights, Hopelessly Devoted To You, Sandy, and Greased Lightnin’.

This production originally opened in the West End in 1993 and, after a six-year run, toured throughout the world playing to sell-out audiences and breaking box office records. It’s been seen by more than 12 million people in the UK alone.

Tom Parker achieved two UK No.1s and nine top 10 singles, as well as four Billboard 100 singles, with The Wanted, with Glad You Came placing in the top five and selling more than 900,000 records.

The band had three platinum albums, two sell-out arena tours, and three million singles sold in America.

Danielle Hope made her professional debut as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium, after capturing the hearts of the country and winning the BBC’s Over The Rainbow having competed against more than 9,000 girls.

She went on to star as Eponine in the West End production of Les Miserables with other roles including the narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Maria in The Sound Of Music.

Louisa Lytton trained at the Sylvia Young Theatre School and secured her first professional role as the innocent schoolgirl Ruby Allen in EastEnders.

She has also starred in The Bill, the British Shakespeare Company’s productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Much Ado About Nothing, ITV’s The Edge Of Heaven and also reached the quarter finals in the fourth series of Strictly Come Dancing, and represented the UK in the 2008 Eurovision Dance Contest.
