Hoppers co-founder Karan Gokani to serve Sri Lankan-inspired meal at Port Lympne Hotel and Reserve

Celebrity chef Karan Gokani is bringing the flavours of Sri Lanka to food lovers in a one-off dining experience.

The culinary event will see the Hoppers co-founder visit Port Lympne Hotel and Reserve, in Hythe, and serve up a unique blend of South Asian dishes and local Kent produce.

Karan, who has appeared on Saturday Kitchen and Sunday Brunch, is working with Port Lympne’s executive chef, Lee Edney, to create a bespoke menu for diners, who will be seated in the Garden Room Restaurant for the meal.

The evening will begin with a welcome cocktail, the White Ruby Punch, which is a signature drink from Karan’s London restaurants.

Hoppers first opened in Soho in 2015 and has since become a chain restaurant with locations in Marylebone and King’s Cross.

The eatery, inspired by Sri Lankan cuisine, earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in its first year with a menu including dosas, kothu, rice and tropical cocktails.

The welcome cocktail at Port Lympne will be served alongside canapés including coconut rotis topped with a caramelised onion and apple Seeni sambol and Kadala cups filled with cashew hummus and spiced chickpeas.

A starter of rock oysters, mussels in coconut curry sauce and string hoppers will then be served, followed by a main course of banana leaf-wrapped seabass, roasted lamb shoulder in a Jaffna curry, tamarind rice, lamb fat potatoes, kithul mustard carrots and parsnips.

There will also be a vegetarian option of banana leaf-wrapped aubergine and Jaffna roasted celeriac curry.

For dessert, guests can enjoy pineapple tarte tatin with vanilla cardamom ice cream and, to accompany the meal, there will be Pentire cocktails and craft larger from Romney Marsh Brewery.
