Comedian and writer David Baddiel to host evening based on his memoir, My Family, at St Mary’s Arts Centre in Sandwich

Comedian David Baddiel is looking back on some of his earliest memories with his fascinating memoir, My Family.

The writer, who has been a staple of the British entertainment industry since the 1980s, is sharing excerpts from his book and answering fans’ burning questions about his life and career in an intimate show in Sandwich.

The evening, during which the author will also sign copies of his book, is set to give audiences a glimpse into his childhood, including his mother’s long-term affair with a golfer and how his older brother, Ivor, would often take on the role of a third parent.

The book was published last year and was based on My Family: Not the Sitcom, a live show that detailed his mother’s recent death and his father’s dementia diagnosis.

David Baddiel first became a familiar face when he started appearing on the Mary Whitehouse Experience in 1989 alongside Rob Newman, Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis.

He would later team up with fellow comic and football fan Frank Skinner to write and star in Fantasy Football League, which prompted the pair’s well-known sporting anthem, Three Lions, with rock band the Lightning Seeds.

David, 60, has also written four novels and several children’s books, hosted the Channel 4 documentary Jews Don't Count and appeared on TV shows such as Taskmaster and QI.

David Baddiel will be at St Mary’s Art Centre in Sandwich on Thursday, May 22. You can book tickets online here.

You can bring a copy of the book to be signed at the event, however, copies of My Family will not be available to purchase on the night.
