Sport England is masterminding a fun family campaign to inspire us all to keep our kids active and entertained during lockdown, and they want your family to join the movement.

We’ve dreamt up five fabulously fun activities to burn off excess energy and put a smile on the face of even the most committed couch potato.

Better still, none of you need to be sporty to take part!

Indoor scavenger hunt: Pop that timer on and challenge your kids to find ten random items, beating the clock every time. Can they find a stripey sock, a loo roll, and ice cube or a soup ladle? Don’t make it too easy;re-order the treasures so they have to scamper up and down stairs and into every room as often as possible.

Go retro: Remember when the epitome of sporting cool was wearing Dunlop green flashes while playing kerbie out on the street? Go old school and inspire your kids with quick and easy games you can do around the house. Chalk out a hopscotch grid in the back garden or mark it off on the carpet with masking tape, and add in a few extra challenges to ramp up the competitiveness. You could also play ball games against your gable wall or get skipping. Bet you can remember all the old tunes too!

Crystal Maze: Work with what you’ve got to create your own marvellous obstacle course. Get the kids clambering over and under the dining table or play the floor is lava andkeep those feet off the ground as you make your way from room to room. Go on, join in, you know you want to!

.

Jukebox danceathon: Get your groove on! Pop that stereo on full throttle and take it in turns to blast out a tune that you’ve all got to dance too. If you got littlies, maybe make it a musical chairs or statues version – you could even wrap up little prizes – and boogie on down.

Explore the outdoors: Exercising in family groups is not just allowed, it’s encouraged. Get some fresh air and go puddle jumping in your wellies, or cycling, walking, or running through your local parks and streets. Keep it fun with an iSpy challenge on the way, or let the kids choose the route at every junction – who knows where you may end up.
