See inside the showhomes designed by Phoenix Interior Design's Susan White by Pentland Homes

Want a house that's so luxuriously art-deco inside that the Great Gatsby himself would feel at home?

Developer Pentland Homes selected Susan White, founder of award-winning Phoenix Interior Design, to dress the show home for their Saxon Fields development at Canterbury.

And she and her team went to town, drawing inspiration from the art-deco style exterior to create a sumptuous dream home, richly appointed using textures, colours and statement pieces to enhance the home's features inside and out.

"Pentland were very generous allowing me to flex those design muscles with this development," she said, of the project which she admits may be the most luxurious she has completed in Kent.

"We want people to walk in and think 'wow, this is the an amazing interior.' There is a reason why we have put every single piece in it. It is important to showcase the amazing interior."

Think lacquer and lace, velvet and a relaxing colour palette with pieces sourced from across the world, from a Parisian lampshade to her piece de resistance - an ostrich feather standard lamp, which Susan describes as "the antique of the future".

"We like to put in statement pieces so people can feel and touch and see the products," she said. "The rooms are beautiful, amazing sizes.

"It is all about the opulence. Every detail has been thought about, even down to the mirrors in the hallways, the unique artwork with ticks to the local area.

"Because art-deco will never date, it was important to show items that are timeless. We wanted to celebrate the house; that it is an amazing art-deco exterior and interior."

The impressive ceiling heights have been accentuated with pieces which take the eye up, from floor to ceiling padded headboards to American-style light fittings and even the shape of the dining chairs have been considered, so they are rounded, and upholstered legs so they appear to float.

One bedroom has been styled as a study to illustrate how many of us live today, regularly working from home, while the master bedroom even has two his and her's dressing suites - complete with clothes and accessories - a pop-up TV and a lilypad art deco side table next to the chaise.

The development of high-quality homes in commuting distance to London by leading house builder, Pentland Homes has also been created with access to green spaces, and more spacious living.

If the country life is what you're after, Susan also styled the show home at the rural Stelling Minnis development, ticking every family's wish list with its plush interiors and attention to detail.

The colour palette includes pops of burnt oranges, blues and silvers - associated with social interaction and success - was used throughout, from the squashy four-seater sofa to the art on the walls, while moments of individuality include a downstairs cloakroom which Susan hopes will make people smile with its quirky wallpaper.

Everything has been thought of, she said. "This is exactly how we all need to live at the moment. It is a really successful family home, with great entertaining areas and great lifestyle areas."

"We were inspired by the traditional countryside exteriors coupled with the modern and spacious interior. The show home is full of intricate detailing and luxurious pieces."

The luxurious living includes a woodburner to settle in front of in the sitting room, and a well-appointed study, which, with more and more of us working from home, is a must, she believes.

She has included plenty of plants around the home for their oxygenation; important for residents' wellbeing, and a kitchen diner with zoned areas and mirrored splashbacks, looking out over a garden with an outside dining space and love seat.
