Strictly’s Johannes Radebe is swapping the dancefloor for the theatre as he makes his musical debut in Kinky Boots.
The dancer stars in the dazzling new show as it tours the country, including five nights in Canterbury.
The feel-good show, set in Northampton and based on a true story, follows Charlie Price, a frustrated fourth-generation businessman who inherits the family shoe factory when his father passes away.
When the business starts to struggle, Charlie doesn’t know how to help until he meets exuberant drag queen Lola, with whom he sparks an unlikely partnership.
Kinky Boots made its Broadway debut in 2013, with Pose star Billy Porter in the leading role, and opened on the West End’s Adelphi Theatre in 2015.
It received six Tony Awards, including an award for the score by ‘80s singer Cyndi Lauper, and three Olivier Awards.
Johannes, who is known for being a professional on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing since 2018, is stepping into Lola’s thigh-high boots for the nationwide tour.
The South African Latin champion will be joined by Dan Partridge, Courtney Bowman and Scott Paige, who have appeared in multiple musicals such as Grease, Six, Aladdin and the Addams Family.
However, fans should be aware that Johannes will not be performing in two Canterbury shows – the matinees on June 11 and 12 – and the role of Lola will be played by Newtion Matthews.
Kinky Boots will be at the Marlowe Theatre from Tuesday, June 10 to Saturday, June 14. You can book tickets here.
